Princes Street West, Edinburgh
Princes Street West is the main shopping street in Edinburgh;
there are virtually no buildings on the south side which allow
panoramic views of the Old Town, Edinburgh Castle and the valley
between. The originally name for the street was going to be St.
Giles Street; however, King George III rejected the name. St. Giles
is the patron saint of lepers and the name of a notorious 'rookery'
of slums in London. King George decided to name the street after
his eldest sons, Prince George, Duke of Rothesay and Prince
Frederick, Duke of York and Albany.
