Portree, Isle of Sky

Portree is the largest town on Skye. The current name, Port R ìgh translates to "King's Port"; this can possibly be traced back to a visit from King James V in 1540. This name has been debated though, as King James did not arrive in peaceful times, as such the older name Port Ruighe(adh) which means "slope harbor" is the more accepted name. The main industries of Skye are tourism, agriculture, fishing and forestry.
