Highland Dancing - Ghillie Callum
The most well-known of the Highland dances is an ancient dance of
war. In the Scottish sword dance, the dancer crosses two swords on
the ground in a 'X' shape and dances around and within the 4
quarters of it. The legend of the origins of the dance comes from
Ghillie Callum (or Malcom Canmore) a Celtic prince who crossed his
sword over his defeated enemy, MacBeth's Chief, at the Battle of
Dunsinane in 1054 and danced around and over his enemy to celebrate
his triumph.
