Prince Charles Edward Stuart

Prince Charlie, born Charles Edward Louis John Casimir Sylvester Severino Maria Stuart on 31st December 1720. He is commonly known in Britain as The Young Pretender and The Young Chevalier. He is best known as the instigator of the unsuccessful Jacobite uprising of 1745. The Jacobites supported the Stuart claim to the Scottish throne due to hopes for religious toleration for Roman Catholics and a belief in the divine right of kings. The uprising ended at the Battle of Culloden which effectively ended the Jacobite cause.
