Patchwork quilt

Jeffs made patchwork quilts as a recreation.  He completed at least 12 over the years, his last was finished in 1975, the year he died.  This one is signed and dated in blue thread.  The quilt is made up of small panels of many colourful floral and geometric designs, the fabric probably came from the family's recycled clothes.  The back is covered with one piece of dark blue fabric.   This quilt was among items discovered during renovation of Jeffs home studio, the Yellow Door, High Street, Kirkcudbright in the 1990s. In 1989, when the property was sold, his family presented a large archive to Dumfries Museum. Among this collection is a photograph of Mr and Mrs Jeffs holding the quilt.
