Portrait of a woman, unidentified drawing

This signed head and shoulders portrait shows a female, wearing strong makeup, and dramatically light.  She is not identified. It is possible that she is an actress of the time as Jeffs undertook poster work for the Lyceum cinema in Dumfries in the 1930s.  There is a preparatory sketch on the reverse of the paper.   This drawing was among items discovered during renovation of Jeffs home studio, the Yellow Door, High Street, Kirkcudbright in the 1990s. In 1989, when the property was sold, his family presented a large archive to Dumfries Museum.
