Wooden Arrows

These wooden arrows were the kind used by the Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers. If visiting the Kilwinning Abbey tower look at the headstones near its entrance. You will see numerous pits in them caused by arrows returning to earth during the Papingo shoot. Metal headed arrows were used in the past – so much for Health and Safety! Today aluminium shafts and rubber tips are employed.
