Clay figurine, Terally

Terally, Kirkmaiden
This crude baked clay figurine is impossible to date.  Was it produced by a potter in an idle moment or was it meant to be a child's toy?  Or was it, as the look on the face suggests, something more sinister?  A belief in witches continued in the Wigtownshire Rhins until well into the nineteenth century and this figure may have been used as a charm.
