Muckle Wheel
This type of spinning wheel was used from the Middle Ages onwards and during the 19th century was replaced by the more familiar treadle wheel. The muckle wheel was thrown into motion by the hand, while the treadle spinning wheel was operated by foot. This wheel dates to around 200 years ago and belonged to the Craigengillan Estate, Dalmellington.
