Green Glaze Pottery Shards
Excavated recently during archaeological excavations at Rowallan Castle, these shards of pottery show the green glaze which typifies a lot of medieval pottery. This sort of pottery was produced chiefly from the mid 13th century until the 15th century but continued to be produced for some time afterwards. The iron in the glaze produced a range of colours including yellows, greens and browns, however the green colour could be intensified by the addition of copper to the mix.
