Cross shaft, Kirkconell
Carved fragment of pink sandstone cross shaft. This cross
fragment was found at St Connel's Church, Kirkconnel, Upper
Nithsdale. It is one of seven pieces of tenth - eleventh century
interlace, shaft and cross-arm from Old Kirkconnel which were
deposited with the Dumfriess and Galloway Natural History and
Antiquarian Society.
by A E Trucknell in 1963. Other cross shafts and heads have since
been found at the site by Kirkconnel Parish History Society
during restoration works in 2005-6, and are now displayed at
the site of the old church.
