Witches Stones
A Witches Stone (Adderstane) is a stone with a naturally
occuring hole through the centre, believed to have protective
qualities. The superstitous practice of hanging witches stones or
building them into walls was believed to protect the occupants
against diseases, charms, evil and even have the ability to see
through fairy and witch disguises. European Folklore further
dictates that the witches' stone keeps the "hag" spirit at bay and
prevents witches from stealing away horses and children.
