Clan Fergusson

Motto: Dulcius ex Asperis (sweeter after difficulties) Plant Badge: Little Sunflower Lands: Argyll, Perthshire, Dumfries and Galloway. Their clan seat is Kilkerran House in Ayrshire.   Also known as, "The Sons of Fergus" the Clan Fergusson has connections throughout the Lowlands and the Highlands of Scotland. It is believed that the Fergussons from South-West Scotland descended from Fergus, Lord of Galloway, in the 12th Century. Another line of Clan Fergusson comes from near the River Tummel at Glanshee. One of those family members was tried for treason for participating in the Jacobite Risings of 1715, however; he was acquitted and fought in the Jacobite Rising of 1745, making him the oldest soldier in Prince Charles' army. A clan with a strong military background, the Fergusson's have also produced talented writers and poets. Robert Fergusson (1750-1774) was a poet and inspiration to Robert Burns, who erected a gravestone at Canongate Churchyard in Edinburgh to honour Robert Fergusson.   The tartans most commonly associated with the Clan Fergusson are green, and crossed with blue bands and red and white stripes. The families who are eligible to wear the Fergusson tartan are Fergie, Fergus, Ferries, Forgie, Keddie, Kiddie, Macadee, MacFergus, MacKeddie, Mackeras and MacKersey.
