The Macintosh

Motto: Touch not the Cat Bot a Glove (don't touch the cat without a glove) Plant Badge: Red Whortleberry Lands: Inverness-shire, Moy Hall has been their family seat for over 500 years.   The name Macintosh comes from the Gaelic "Mac an tiosich" which translates to "son of the leader / chief." The clan is a descendant of the royal house of Duff and is a branch of Clan Chatton, which also includes the Macphersons and close to a dozen other families. Their origins can be traced back to the 12th Century when Shaw Macduff accompanied Malcolm IV to suppress a rebellion in Morayshire. The Macintosh also have connections to the Chatton Clan. This is now a federation of clans and is usually led by a Macintosh. The Macintosh can also lay claim to great thinkers and inventors in their ancestry, as during the 1800s, Charles Macintosh invented a method of waterproofing fabric, which led to the creation of the Macintosh raincoat.   The Macintosh has six different tartans, including the Modern, Ancient, Hunting, and Weathered tartans. The tartan shown on this postcard is an example of the Macintosh Hunting Modern, as it is the only tartan with a yellow stripe through it. Other families eligible to wear the Macintosh tartan are the Adamson, Ayson, Cash, Clark, and MacCombie families, among others.
