Scabbard with human figure belt loop

This protective sheath for  this  left hand dagger demonstrates the intersections of function and fashion that Renaissance and Early Modern weaponry often celebrated. The scabbard is composed of a wooden base, covered over with dark velvet. It has a blackened steel throat and chappe that is decorated with ornate designs of foliage and stylised human figures. A belt loop fashioned as the head and torso of a human male protrudes from the throat of the scabbard.
