Left hand dagger with Classical motif

This late 16th century silver-encrusted dagger has an ornately designed hilt with a floral motif. Possesses a barrel-shaped pommel with a stout, hooded figure in armour on its front surface with a halberd and war hammer in crossform behind the figure. Pommel is topped with a button. Hilt has a wire-wrapped grip, with a sailor's knot braided detail at its top and base. The dagger has a drooping crossguard with large fingerloop. The centre of the fingerloop features a Classical figure in repose. The dagger's blade has has several deeply incised ridges running from the ricasso along its length.
