Dagger
This dagger is a fine example of how weaponry could be used as a
fashion accessory. The gilded hilt consists of a small, double
shell pommell with thumb loop and drooping quillon adorned with
shell terminals. The blade has a plated ricasso with a low
filligree relief coming to a chevron at the top of the sharpened
blade, adjoining the grind line of the blade and in line with the
shell terminals of the quillon. Although highly ornate, daggers
such as this object may have been deadly when wielded by a skilled
swordsperson, with its double edged blade and sharp point being
well-suited to close-combat confrontations.
