Chiselled dagger 1

Intricate chiselled daggers such as this object showcase the talent of its maker and would have demonstrated the affluence and rank of its fashionable owner. Mounted figures in low relief are poised for battle on the dagger's fig-shaped pommel and surmount a helix-shaped grip. Its quillons take the form of human torsos emerging from the body of the hilt. The blade had 3 deep fullers running from rhw base to the mid-section of the blade. Unusual, ornate daggers such as this example were highly sought after by collectors during the Victorian period and early 19th century.
