Stoneware hot water 'pig'

Hot water bottles like this were also known as 'pigs'. Although its easy to think the term 'pig' comes form the little 'snout' at the top of the bottle, this is actually a handle that stays cool. Pig, or pyg, is a Scots word for a pot, pitcher or jar that's usually earthenware.
