This piece of mail illustrates how such armour was constructed. Each ring is individually rivited and connected through six others.
Although mail like this was commonplace throughout Europe including Scotland, it was no match for the devastating effect of the English longbow, the arrows from which, when correctly shaped, would simply burst through the rings.
