Polished jet belt slider, Luce Sands

Carved jet belt-sliders were used to secure a belt or waist band.  These high status objects were made in Yorkshire and traded or exchanged over a wide area that included south-west Scotland.  This example was collected, probably from Luce Sands, by the Wigtownshire antiquary the Rev R Anderson.   A polished jet or shale 'belt-slider', broken at the perforation.  It has a rounded end and an oval section.
