Pitchstone, Luce Sands

Luce Sands
Small blades and flakes of pitchstone collected from Luce Sands by W F Cormack in the 1960s and 70s.   Pitchstone is a type of volcanic glass.  It occurs naturally on Arran and is occasionally found at Neolithic sites in southern Scotland.  It is much sharper than flint and may have been used in simple surgery and perhaps tattooing.
