Sling Pellets, Burnswark
Burnswark
This selection of lead sling-shot pelelts were found at
Burnswark Roman Fort.
It has been suggested that the site of Burnswark was an Iron Age
oppidum, a type of large defended settlement found throughout
europe during the period. The site of Burnswark was the oppidum of
the Novantae tribe. The site of the later Roman siege camps of the
2nd century AD are thought to be punitive measures taken by the
Romans after the uprising of 155 AD.
