Burnswark Camp

A large siege camp of 5.3 hectares lies on the south side of Burnswark Hill and a smaller camp of 3.2 hectares lies on the north side. In the north-eastern corner of the south camp in overlies an earlier Iron Age farmstead, scooed into the hillside, whose ditches ahve been incorporated into the camp's defences.   These siege camps are likely to date from the middle or the second half of the second century, but whether they were training camps, or relate to a real siege in the mid-2nd century is not yet clear.
