Forts, Glenlochar

Three superimposed forts, which coincided over the greater part if not the whole of the circuit. The first was Flavian and had been destroyed by fire; the second was Antonine and the third was a later Antonine modification of the second.  There was an annexe on the north side.    The ditches of the forts show up as dark cropmarks, and the roads within the fort as lighter marks. The fort is built on the east bank of the river Ken, and other forts in the region are also built on east banks, indicating a military force moving westwards. In addition to the fort, which was a permanent base, there are also at least five marching camps at Glenlochar, some capable of holding more than 3,000 men.
