Bronze stud
Barburgh Mill Fort
Small decorative stud, probably from a military belt or horse
harness. This fragment of a metal stud has a circular disc
with a peg on the reverse. The front has a circle with red colour
in the centre, and a radial line creates eight segments around the
border, alternating light blue enamel with empty segments.
Barburgh Mill Fortlet
The fortlet at Barburgh mill was excavated in the 1970s in advance
of its destruction by gravel quarrying. Although on the
Dumfriesshire side of the Nith it is typical of the fortlets found
in Galloway.
