Glass bead, Drummore
Drummore, Wigtownshire
A white glass bead decorated with a black trail pattern.
Beads like this were produced locally during the Roman period.
During the 18th and 19th century these sort of beads were
thought to have magical properties. They were called 'adder
stones' and, when boiled in water or milk, could improve
eye-sight.
