Flagon neck, Carzield
Carzield Roman fort
Top fragment of a flagon or jar. Includes the rim, neck, partial
shoulder and one handle. The clay is an orange matrix with black
specks. The wide strap handle from near rim, going down to the to
shoulder has a centre
groove.
The flagon was the standard household storage container for
drinks. This one was found just outside the fort at Carzield,
and may have come from the civilian settlement which grew up around
the fort.
