Roman amphora

Amphorae were used for the transport of liquid and perishable commodities such as wine or olive oil.  The pointed base was to enable easier stacking.  They were brought to Britain, full of imported goods, from the late Iron Age to the post-Roman period.  This amphora was not found in Scotland and is of a type which is unrepresented in the country as far as we can tell.
