Gaming board and pieces, Whithorn

A broken stone gaming board with two stone gaming pieces.   The board is made from a thin slab of local greywacke stone, with the lines for the board scratched into the flattest suface. The grid pattern indicates that this is probably for a game like hnefatafl (King's Board), where one player tries to protect the king piece and move it from the centre of the grid to an outside corner, whilst the other player tries to capture the king.   Another board found at Whithorn was for a version of the game merels, also known as Nine Mens Morris.
