Bone Spindle Whorl, Whithorn
Two bone spindle whorls, made by sawing off the end of an animal
femoral bone.
Only six bone whorls were found at Whithorn, in contrast with
seventy-two stone ones. Being less dense and therefore lighter than
stone, these whorls would have been used to spin comparatively
lighter threads.
