Lead fishing weight, Whithorn
A hogback shaped piece of lead with holes at either end is a
line weight from a fishing net. Similar objects carved in stone
have been found on Viking sites in the Northern Isles, and the use
of similarly shaped weights continued right through to the 19th
century,
