Bronze stick pins, Whithorn

A group of bronze stick pins with decorated heads. The different patterns on the heads allow the pins to be dated - this group are from the 10th - 12th century, and closely match groups of pins known from Irish sites such as Dublin. Whithorn has the largest number of stick pins from any site in Scotland.   Stick pins were usually used to fasten cloaks, or occasionally wrap-around jackets.
