Decorated leather fragment, 8 - 9th century

This off cut may have been used as a sketch or trial piece for a design later carved in bone, antler or stone.  A very similar design has beenfound on a pair of bridle mounts from Baladoole, Isle of Man.  This interlaced design is also used on many of the tenth century carved crosses from Whithorn.   A leather off-cut, perhaps a waste strip from shoemaking.  An interlace motif has been incised into one side.  There is an unfinished interlace design on the other side.
