Cut piece of silver ring money, Whithorn
Cut end of a piece of diamond-section silver ring money.
Silver ring-money is characteristically Norse, and this
undecorated piece would date to the late 10th or 11th century. At
6.26 grams it is slightly light for the standard Norse
ertog of 8 grams, but comtemporary lead weights also found
on the site are seen to deviate from the standard as well.
