Ewer

This ewer, for sake, has a black, lacquered background decorated with plum blossoms and pine branches in gold.  Both are symbols of good fortune.  Plum also represents early spring whilst pine is associated with the New Year and longevity. Lacquered objects would not have been used to hold boiling liquid, so this object is not a teapot, despite its appearance.
