Small sword, likely Italian
Duelling in the 16th and 17th centuries was a pursuit for
gentlemen in the upper class of society. With a preference for
thrusting and using the point of the blade, long, rapier-type
blades were gradually shortened while still maintaining
effectiveness. Weaponry, such as this small sword, reflected
the status of its owner as a sidearm and as a part of the daily
wardrobe.
