Flemish small sword 2

Chiselled 18th century small sword with spherical pommel and petal-shaped hand guard with designs featuring human figures and scroll flourishes.   Small swords emerged as a popular sidearm in the 17th and 18th century as a shorter and lighter progression of the rapier design. They were worn as a sidearm for men - either military or civilian - with notions of reaching gentlemanly status.
