Swept hilt rapier 1

Although a rapier such as this object may have been deadly in skilled hands, they were predominanly fashion accessories for men to display their status and rank while in civilian dress. This rapier has an open basket-work hilt with a gilded hand guard, quillion and pommel with pierced basketwork terminals. The blade has an ethched ricasso, with the blade itself inscribed with 'ANTONNI IOHANNI'. The blade also has a double fuller on on its top section, coming to a single fuller on the bottom section of the blade.
