Italian cup hilt rapier
The slender and sharply pointed rapier was a popular sidearm for
civilians and in military use throughout the 16th and 17th
centuries. The hilt of this rapier features pierced, interlocked
circular design on its cup guard, a wire-wrapped grip, and
spherical pommel.
Weapon bears the 'Passau wolf' mark. This mark on cut and
thrust weapons originated in Passau, Germany, and later came to
Solingen, where the running wolf design also became known as a
'Solingen mark'. Imported blades that were locally hilted was not
uncommon practice in sword production.
