German rapier
The rapier sword was both a stylish accessory and weapon
of self-defence used by civilian and military gentlemen through out
the 16th and 17th century. This rapier has several guards between
the grip and the blade to protect an unarmoured users hand, making
it as beautiful as it is functional.
The hilt of this rapier would have once shone yellow with
gold, but with age, the gilding has flaked off. The ricasso
terminals and pommel feature little face hidden among foliate
ornatmentation. Can you spot them?
