Cup hilt rapier 2
Spanish 17th century cup hilt rapier. Features a
highly decorated hilt with its guard presenting floral and bird
designs chiselled into the metal. Possesses a fig-shaped pommel
with button and helix wire wrap on the grip with a sailor's knot at
its top and bottom. Double-edged blade with inscriptions on both
side, one side reading 'PEDROO' and the other 'ILECAMA'. Cup hilt
rapiers emerged as a popular sword for persnal defence in Spain
during the Renaissance, with the cup guard protecting the hand
during combat.
