Bayonet for Winchester rifle

A bayonet is a knife designed to be fit on the muzzle of a firearm, converting the range rifle into a spear that could be used in close combat by infantry soldiers. In WWI, bayonets like this were used to go 'over the top' in charges across no man's land, which more often than not resulted in the total destruction of entire battalions.   This bayonet belonged to an Officer in the Russian army during the reign of the last official Tsar, Nicholas II, who was executed by Bolsheviks in 1918. The bayonet was brought from North Russia in June 1919.
