Bascinet helmet with camails
This is an early example of a medieval 'bascinet' or 'basin'
helmet. These would gradually evolve into helmets with visors
to protect the face and eyes. The chainmail attached to the
headpiece can also be called 'a camial' this would have been used
to protect the neck and shoulders.
One description of William Wallace has him wearing what is
described as a 'steel cap' which may have looked something like
this.
