BLACKLOCK, Thomas Bromley (1863 - 1903)

Blacklock was born in Kirkcudbright, but went to Edinburgh to study and did not return to live in his home town until the age of 32, just 8 years before his suicide in 1903.   He was exposed to the work of other Kirkcudbright artists but remained on the edges of the group. It was around the time of his return to Kirkcudbright that he became increasingly focused on working mythical figures into his paintings.
