The banqueting hall of the Palace at Dean Castle during restoration

This photograph shows the banquetting hall within the Palace at Dean Castle during restoration in the mid-twentieth century. It shows what the room looks like before the elaborate plasterwork ceiling and wooden paneling were added. It gives an impression of what it may have looked like in the 15th Century when it was originally constructed. The Palace was the last building to be restored by the 8th Lord Howard de walden on the site (although the gatehouse was built around the same time).
