Crossbow bolt, Cruggleton Castle

Cruggleton Castle
An iron crossbow bolt with a flattish, leaf-shaped head.  A similar crossbow bolt was found during excavations at Achanduin Castle, Lismore.   Cruggleton Castle is located on a cliff top overlooking Wigtown Bay.  It has been an important power base for thousands of years and excavation has shown that the site was occupied in the Iron Age, the Dark Ages and again in the Medieval period.  It was one of the centres of the Lords of Galloway.
