Scott of Balcomie Coat of Arms
This is the coat of arms of Major General John Scott of Balcomie in Fife, who's daughter, Henrietta, bought the Kilmarnock estate from James, the 14th earl of Glencairn in 1786.
It is a good example of how designs were changed when a family grew and split up into different branches. The original Scotts, from the Borders, had the gold background and the blue band with the two crescents and the star. When a branch of the family got lands in Fife the red border was added and when another branch acquired Balcomie, they added the red crescent at the top.
