Plaster Roundel from the Ceiling of the Banqueting Hall in the Palace at Dean Castle

The ceiling of the banqueting hall of the Palace of Dean Castle dates from the early 20th century when the building was restored but was faithfully cast from a much earlier ceiling from Balfour House. Roundels showing famous people were common and very popular in plasterwork ceilings such as this. This one shows Alexander the Great.
