Key, c1300, found in the foundations at Castledykes, Dumfries
This key was found when digging the foundations of the Castle Dykes. In 1306 Robert the Bruce captured the castle of Dumfries at Castledykes, but a month later it was back in English hands. They occupied it until 1313, when it was finally destroyed by Bruce during his fight for Scottish independence.
